Hi Iris,
The Burchetts/Birchetts came from Chatham, Kent County, England 1665 - 1668 to Charles City County, Virginia where Edward Birchett owned over 800 acres of land. I have heard the same thing about the Scot part but found no evidence that it came from the Birchett side except records of Edward Birchett in England. It is quite possible the Scot came from one of the wifes down the line.
