Hi Robert,

I have nine Mary TRAVIS in my file. Four of those are Mary A. TRAVIS. The closest that I can get to 1855 is Mary A. TRAVIS probably born abt. 1859 or 1860? >

1860 TRAVIS JOHN <Grainger CountyTN435District 4Federal Population ScheduleTN 1860 Federal Census IndexTNS5a1732305

1870 Grainger Co., Tennessee Census, 4th Civil district, dated the 11th day of August on the second page of stamped pg. 41, written page number 6, post office "Rutdlege", lists John TRAVIS- w-m-age 52, b. TN., farmer, married, with children> James M. age 17, and Mary A. age 11 both born in TN.

1880 Grainger Co., Tennessee Census, 5th Civil district, dated the 8th day of June.
Call # OHS Micro Copy # T-9 Roll# 1257 ED# 97
Second page of stamped pg.# C 434, written page number 12, lists John TRAVIS, dwelling # 101 and family # 101 as w-m-age 61, b. TN., farmer, married, with children> James M. age 27, and Mary A. age 20, all born in TN.

1891 TRAVIS JOHN (sic)Rainger CountyTN027Dist. 5 -male Voters- TN 1891
Voters ListTN509353033 ( I would imagine that this was a typo and should be Grainger Co.?)

1900 Grainger Co., TN. shows that John TRAVIS is now deceased as Sarah is listed as a widow. Wife Sarah "IS" found on this census as HOH, w-f-b. Jan. 1823, age 77, widowed, mother of 2 children total and 2 children still living. Sarah listed as born in TN., father born in Va., mother born in TN. She He owns her own home and can read and write. Her son James M. lives there as well, w-m- age 46, b. TN. in Aug. 1853 and who is single. He works as farm laboror, can read and write.
Daughter Mary A. TRAVIS may have married as she is not living at home.

Does any of this fit with your research? This Mary A. TRAVIS (according to the census above census would have been born abt. 1859 or 1860 though). It could be that I just don't have your Mary down yet. My TRAVIS families seemed to name all of the children the same names! It's been a real zoo trying to figure them all out. Perhaps I just haven't caught up with this one yet. It's been awhile since your initial post.....Have you found any more information yet? Let me hear from you! Debbie
