Looking for information on Joseph A. Burcham and his son Letcher (aka Letch). I believe that Joseph may be the son of Henry James Burcham, but haven’t yet proved this relationship. Breathitt County Kentucky birth records have a Joseph A. Burcham being born to Henry James Burcham and Mary Banks on April 30, 1859. There is a record of a J. A. Birchum marrying Luellen Banks on March 30, 1898 in Breathitt County. I also have a 1900 Jessamine County Kentucky census record listing Joseph, Luellen and Letcher, although the January 1865 birth date listed for Joseph doesn’t match "my" Joseph. Letcher’s date of birth is listed as January 1885. I also have a Kentucky death certificate for a Joseph Bircham who died in Jessamine County on June 15, 1927. His date of birth is not given, but his age is listed as 63-1/2 years and his father as Jim Bircham. Informant is Letcher Bircham and burial is in Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville Kentucky.
I have a 1910 Woodford County Kentucky census record for Letch, his wife Emely and daughters Rosie, Maggie and Josie. Letch’s age is listed as 28. I also have a 1920 Fayette County Kentucky census record for Letcher, Emmie, Rosie, Maggie, Josie, Letcher, Ruth and Ina. Letcher’s age is listed as 40.
I assume that Letcher is Joseph’s son by a first marriage, since he was born at least 13 years before Joseph’s marriage to Luellen in 1898. Both Joseph and Letcher are listed as being illiterate in the census, so perhaps they did not know their true ages or birthdates.
I’m seeking more information on this family, such as when and where did Letcher die, who was his mother and is this Joseph Burcham the son of my ancestor Henry James Burcham? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
