The information I have for Evalina Buote, daughter of Cyriac and Louise (also known as Lizette) comes from transcripts of Acadian church records. They indicate that she was born on October 1, 1870. She was one of the youngest of a large family.
Cyriac was the son of Francois Buote, the first Acadian schoolteacher and Victorine Gaudet. The family originally came from Rustico, settled in Miscouche for a few years where Cyriac was born on Nov. 5th, 1825. The family eventually settled around Tignish where two of Francois' brothers were living (Michel and Pierre).
Cyriac and Louise were married on January 8th, 1850 in Tignish. They had at least 11 children. They were i) Exupirantia (Esperance) (b: Dec. 30, 1851), ii) Natalie (b: May 16, 1853), iii) Gilbert (b: abt. 1855),iv) Michael (b: Sept. 29, 1856), v) Peter (b: June 23, 1858), vi)Mary (b: Sept. 23, 1859), vii) Peter (b: Oct 2, 1861), viii) Francois (b: Sept. 29, 1863), ix) Victime (b: Dec. 25, 1865), x) Victoire Adoline (b: abt. 1869), and xi) Evalina (b: Oct. 3, 1870).
The Census of 1881 indicates the family was living in Lot 2, on western Prince Edward Island. At that time they had a servant living with them by the name of Margaret Bernard, aged 35. Cyriac's occupation was given as Farmer, as was that of his son Michael who lived at home. In all 7 of the children lived in the same household at that time. Gilbert, married to Modeste (Edesse) Bernard lived in the next house. He was also listed as a farmer.
Cyriac died on May 2, 1889 and was buried 2 days later on May 4, 1889 at Tignish.
The Census of 1891 lists the household of Peter Buote, aged 28 widowed, living in Lot 2. He was married to Jullitte Arsenault and had at least two children , Joseph Alfred, and Mary Philomena. Also in the household were his mother Louise, now aged 66 and widowed; two sisters, Matilda and Mary; and one brother Michael. His brother Gilbert still lived in the next household with his family.
