James Bunker DOB 1848 origin USA

I'm looking to track down my paternal great grandfather's roots. His name is James Bunker born in 1848. He named his only son Darrell. All I have is a census record from 1911 in Little River, Digby County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The census record shows he came from the USA in 1858. Some older folk recall my grandfather's kin came from Maine but that cannot be confirmed. There is also speculation he may have a brother named Oliver who is my maternal great-great grandfather but I have not been able to make that connection at all so I am assuming that to be inaccurate until otherwise. However, Oliver's father Porterfield is also listed in the 1901 census in Little River as being from USA but no known destination. Can anyone help me make a connection? Thanks. Julie (Bunker) Long
