Bunch connected to Howeth or Lauderdale in early 1800s?

I think I might have found a loose brick in my "wall". I would appreciate any information or clues as to the James and William Bunch that were in Hamilton and Marion TN counties in the 1830s; or how Bunch might be related to Howeth or Lauderdale in the Hamilton or Grainger Co. regions. Please be patient with my long explanation.

I am looking for the parents of David (~1812) and Jane (~1815) Bunch (my 3g-grandmother), born in E. Tennessee.

1840 census for Hamilton Co, TN shows only one Bunch - David listed next to his father-in-law Jacob Roberts. David's sister Jane is listed with her husband Wm. Roberts (William A. Roberts/Robbirds - married about 1833 probably in Hamilton Co.) a few lines before. This is in the Falling Water area, all the Vandergriffs are related - Jacob and Wm. A.'s mother was Ann Vandergriff.

Also in the 1840 census is John Howet (Howeth), Mary Lauderdale, Elizabeth James and Gilbert Vandergriff - in that order. The 1830 census shows Mary Howeth with sons Thomas and John on each side of her. William Roberts (father of Jacob and Wm. A.) filed his Rev. War pension application in 1832, witnessed by Gilbert Vandergriff (his brother-in-law) and John Howeth. Elizabeth James should be the mother-in-law of Thomas Howeth. Not sure about 1830, but in 1840 they should be in the Soddy-Daisy area of Hamilton Co.

Are Mary Howeth of 1830 and Mary Lauderdale of 1840 the same person? (The age ranges match, and both are listed next to the same John Howeth.)

I know a William Lauderdale and Gilbert Vandergriff are both listed as pioneers in Hamilton Co, but can't find much on Lauderdale. There are also records of a James and William Bunch buying land in Hamilton Co. (Soddy-Daisy-Sale Creek?) and adjoining Marion Co. during the 1830s, but I can't find anything else to identify them.

The Howeth family was from Grainger Co - William Robert Howeth and wife Mary were there by 1799 - as were the Vandergriffs, with William Roberts by 1800. The 1810 census for Grainger Co. shows Mary Howeth near the Vandergriffs and associated families.

There is no doubt that the Howeth family and Mary Lauderdale knew my Roberts - Vandergriff ancestors. My Roberts first bougt land in Falling Water in 1836, so may have first been in Soddy-Daisy with their Vandergriff relatives there (1831-1836?).

There is a family legend that David Bunch's early children had a Lauderdale grandmother. There is no known relation between the Roberts/Vandergriff and Lauderdale family - other than being neighbors. That suggests that the family legend (which did correctly identify Roberts as related) means that a Lauderdale might be a mother or grand-mother to Jane and David Bunch. There are certain "coincidences" that might further connect David Bunch to the Howeth family. Both David Bunch and some of these Howeths ended up in the Grayson and Cooke Co. region of Texas. The name Sewell/Suel is a Howeth family name, David Bunch named a son Suel. Of course, there is no shortage of the name David Bunch in Grainger Co, TN where the Howeths were from.

Any ideas on how to prove or disprove this?

Thanks,

Dan
