Hi Shirley -- Thanks for the response.I do have the following info about the Bunch family. This I had written in my family history, Memories of Hardwicks.
------------------
I don't know too much about Samuel H. Hardwick, my great great grandfather.Lee Brooks Freese in his book identified Samuel H. Hardwick as the son of a John Hardwicke, Jr., and a Miss Venable, but I have not seen any verification of this, and I don't believe it is true.Other researchers believe this is not true, either. He also noted that Samuel was born on June 11, 1776, a fact also noted by other researchers.
According to the records of Mary Lou Shinkle in Ohio and Steve Lawson in Washington, Samuel married Lucinda Bunch in April of 1794, but I am not sure if this was in VA or KY, probably VA.Lynn C. McCarthy, a professional researcher in KY, found that a Samuel Hardwick does show on the tax rolls of Montgomery county, KY in 1799 through 1801.He is not listed in 1802 and 1803 and shows up again in 1804 through 1811. He is not listed on the tax rolls after that.
His son, George Nimrod, died in Gentry county, MO.His granddaughter, Frances Evelyn Nance, wrote a biography of Nimrod which was published in the "History of Gentry & Worth Counties, MO".In that biography, Frances writes "George Nimrod Hardwick was born in Montgomery county, Kentucky, February 16, 1809, but later moved to Morgan county of which Greenup county later became a part.He was the son of Samuel H. Hardwick and Lucinda Bunch Hardwick. "When he was 5 years of age, near the end of the War of 1812, his father enlisted as a soldier and lost his life in the war.His Mother, unable to care for all her children, Nimrod became an apprentice, living in other homes until he was grown."
The Federal Archives have no record of a Samuel H. Hardwick serving in the War of 1812.Neither do the Archives of the State of Kentucky. Record keeping, however, was not 100% accurate during those times. I have a copy of an inventory and sale of the goods of Samuel Hardwick which was held in Montgomery county, KY in November of 1814 at the home of Nancy Bunch.Samuel was evidently presumed dead by that time. According to the records of Margaret Marie McGill, a great great granddaughter of Samuel H., Lucinda remarried a William Brown. The marriage records of Kentucky do show that a Lucinda Hardwick and a William Brown were married in Floyd county, KY on January 15, 1818.
Steve Lawson and Mary Lou Shinkle, mentioned above, did furnish me information about Lucinda Bunch and her ancestors.Briefly that ancestry is as follows: John Bunch was born about 1636/1641 in England. He came to Virginia before March 3, 1656, on which date a Mr. Gervase Dodson was granted 600 acres in Lancaster Co. for the transportation to Virginia of 12 persons, one whom was "Jno Bunch".On March 18, 1662 John Bunch was assigned 450 acres in New Kent, Co., Virginia.I do not know his wife's name. He had a son, also named John, who marriedMary ??.They had a son, John, Jr., born about 1690 who married a Rebecca ??.One of their children was Henry Bunch, born about 1720 who married an Ann Calloway. One of their children was named Zachariah Bunch who married Saby (Sabory) ??.Their fifth child was Lucy (Lucinda) Bunch who married Samuel H. Hardwick.
