Horatio Bunch is one of my ancestors. I am still working on his ancestry, but I can say something about his life.

He was born 4/24/1801, according to his gravestone. It is likely he was born in NC (census info), but that might be a mistake-- he could have been born in TN or VA. His supposed parents (Thomas Bunch and either "Sarah" or "Jane"/"Jennie") were apparently in TN from 1790 (when Thomas married Jane, according to the IGI) until they died in Henry Co., Thomas in 1841/2 and Sarah after 1850.

By 11/19/1835, when he married (IGI), Horatio had moved to Hinds Co., MS. His wife was Henrietta Cook, born in TN 8/18/1804 according to her gravestone. I have no information on a wife and children that Horatio might have had in TN before 1835.

Horatio and Henrietta settled in Steen's Creek (now Florence), Rankin Co., MS. Horatio was not there in the 1830 census, but they were living there by the time of the 1840 census. This area had only opened up to settlement around 1828. There they spent the rest of their lives. Horatio and Henrietta had four children. On 4/9/1837 my ancestor, Ruth Adeline Bunch, was born in Steen's Creek. She died July 1889 in Steen's Creek. She first married Elias Estus Steen on 11 May 1855, then after he died in the war, she next married John Stubbs. Another child of Horatio and Henrietta was Sarah (born 1838), another David (born 5/25/1839), and the fourth was L. E. (born 1842).

Horatio died 2/20/1861. Henrietta died 11/21/1872. They are both buried in the Steen's Creek Cemetery.

It looks as though Maj. Bryan Benjamin Bunch, CSA, buried in Henry Co., TN was Horatio's brother. His wife was Jane, born 4/21/1803, died 6/3/1856. They had at least one child, Sarah, buried next to them.

I would love to hear about a meeting between Horatio and Davy Crockett.
