Letter (transcribed by me) to my great Grandfather Cyrus V. Bunce, dated Dec 19, 1889, from his Grandfather Jacob Bunce Address: Cambridgeboro, Crawford Co., PA:

Rockdale PA

Dec 19/1889

Dear Grandson,

Your letter was received by me yesterday. It found me about as well as con(-----)ion enjoying good health for (?) of my age.

I was very glad to hear from you and glad to hear that you are getting along so well. The photo of your little daughter came through all right and is a lovely picture.

You wrote that you had written me twice or three times, and also, had sent me photos of your other children, but they have failed to reach me. This is the 1st letter and pictures that I have received. I am living at home with Chas.

You asked my age, well I am 85 years old. I was born Aug. 12, 1804. However I am glad to say, I am quite able to walk around quite well yet. About all my traveling is done on foot.

The winter has been very spare this winter, no snow to speak of. About 3 inches perhaps. There has been considerable rain here. (---?) has been warm. The sun is shining today and it looks like a day in April, but we will soon have it cold enough.

The folks are well at present, my brother Platt is dead, he died about 3 weeks ago.

This is about all, my hand trembles so that I cannot write.

I was very glad to get the picture and if my health continues as good as it is now, I will try and have my picture taken so as to send you one. So I will close with love and send best wishes to all. I wish that you would have your father write to me and tell me how he is getting along.

Write again soon.

From your grandfther, Jacob Bunce

Note: Horace Alonzo Bunce, Jacob's son and my great-great grandfather moved to Oakland, California I assume to be near his son, my great grandfather, Cyrus Victor Bunce. He then married a much younger woman named Harriet. Horace died in 1900 in California. This letter was in my mother's possession but was not in her belongings after she passed away, so is now lost.
