I am curious. As 20 men have completed the Family Tree DNA Bumpus project, I wonder if anyone will venture a guess as to how the two families: one in New England and the other in VA/NC are related?

Based on my reading, one idea is that Samuel Bumpus that married Mary Gabriel is the son of John and Sarah of Marshfield. The other is that the southern Bumpus family came directly from England? to VA? Is there any documentation to support either idea?
