Georganna, you should have mentioned that the family lines you are researching are/were Black/AfroAmerican. Other researchers need all the information that you can give them when you seek help.

On the 1900 census for Granville Co NC it clearly shows that the mother of your Camilla/Cammie was Candis Jones. Also in the household was Camilla's 19 yr old brother with surname of Jones. Therefore, it would appear that her maiden name was Jones.
The family is also on the 1910 * 1920 census there. On the 1910 census is this:
D 300 F321 Louis Bumpass 70 b NC black
Agnes 65 b NC black 8 children 5 alive
D 301 F 322 James L. Bumpass 37 NC black
C_____ 29 NC black
Blanche Bumpass 16 NC black niece
Georga A 12 NC black dgt

You should search the 1880 NC census for Louis/Lewis Bumpass as that will give the siblings of your James.
