Robert BUMPASS, b. 1705, d. 1777, m. Sarah, who died after 1786. (NC Tax List). They had a son, John (Fighting John), founder of "Deep Creek" line. He married his cousin, Anne BUMPASS, daughter of his uncle, John. During the Revolutionary period he won his nickname of "Fighting John" by his activity against the Tories and Gov. TRYON, though once a friendly hunting companion of TRYON. He and others, including his brother-in-law, Anthony COZART, his own brother, Robert and his friend, Col. PERSON, were in the Goshen School Council. He left a will dated 12 Jul 1812, which was filed for probate in August 1813. (NC records, Raleigh Historical Library, call #C.R. 20069). John & Anne had a dau, Mary "Molly" BUMPASS, b. 1759, d. 1836, m. John McVEY 1780. Their children were: Piety MC VEY (1782-1829) m. James Bumpass CAZORT (1764-1846) on 8 Feb 1800; David Mc VEY; John MC VEY; Rebecca MC VEY, who m. John CHANDLER; Jeanette MC VEY, who m. a NELSON. This material is from "A GENEALOGY OF THREE BRANCHES OF THE BUMPASS FAMILY" by William Moses JONES. I encourage you to use it as clues, only; I've found many mistakes in the book.
