Bumpass in HANOVER Co, VA

I am trying to locate records for persons that were descended from William Bumpass b 20 Jan 1755 d 7 June 1837 - both in Hanover Co, VA.

William Bumpass, Sr supposedly m1 Mary?? Coleman by 1777
They had unknown # of children which included my ancestor
William, Jr b 20 Jan 1777 Hanover Co VA d.c 1862 Davidson Co TN., another son was Thomas and possibly a son named John. Some attribute a dght to them but I have not found proof.

Wm Bumpass, Sr m2 Elizabeth "Betsy" Harris on 9 March 1796 per Hanover Co VA marriage bonds.
Known children were Edmund E. and Overton N. (Newton?) They probably had other children as the 1810 and 1820 censuses for Hanover Co VA show other persons under age 21.

In the LAB bk (Lynn Albert Bumpus) the above Edmund Bumpass is # 6.448 pg 142 with a son named Wilkinson # 7.1017 pg 267. Wilkinson is listed with 6 children (#s 8.1383 - 8.1388). On the 1880 Hanover Co,VA census those same children are listed in the household of Edmund Bumpass as his adult children ranging in age from 49 down to 27. On that census Edmund was 78 (bc 1802) and wife Landonia was age 69 (bc 1811). Obicously a 49 yr old could not be their grandson so I believe the census is correct and that the LAB bk is in error.

QUESTION: does anyone have access to any of the other bks on our Bumpass families that might give some information on the above ancestors? I would truly like to find some data on Overton N Bumpass as the only record of him is in his mother's application for a pension for Wm Sr's Rev War service.

Thanks, Bettye Heinrich bettyejps@netzero.net
