Does anyone have info on Ellen Jane Bumgardner? She was born May 1849 North Carolina. Died Aft. 1900 Mountain City, Tennessee. She married Abt. 1871 Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee, Soloman Ward s/o William H. & Rebecca Ham Ward. Soloman was born Apr 1846, North Carolina & died 1942 Beech Creek, Mingo County, West Virginia.

This is the story I have been told about her family.

Katie Dotson - Dec 6, 2005
Billie Jean told me that dad told her that Grandma Ellen's last name was Bumgardner and that she married a Smith before she married Soloman. Her parents disowned her when she married Soloman, cause he was poor and they had money.

Told by Ennis Blankenship Layne.
Ellen had a child by another man before she met Granpa Soloman. They wanted to get married but her parents wouldn't let them. They wouldn't let her have anything to do with him. After the baby was born they went to court and had papers drawn up saying that she would not be entitled to anything they owned after their death. They also took the baby from her and made her leave home.
Her parents were considered rich people. Later she went back to TN to see her child but was told it had died.
Enn said she was a very good seamstress and made very nice dresses for her and Laura and tried to make them act like ladies. She wanted them to wear dresses and hats. Said she managed to make a lady out of Laura, but Enn was too much of a tomboy.
Granma Ellen & Granpa Soloman separated and she moved back to Mountain City, TN where she died and is buried.
Soloman bottom at Phelps was named for Granpa Soloman, they lived at Soloman Botton when Enn & Tom were young.
Granma Ellen would walk for miles to help other families when they were sick.

Soloman & Ellen had 9 children, one being my grandmother, Callie Lillie Virginia Ward Blankenship.
The other children were:
Fredrick James T. Ward
Rebecca Dottie Alice Ward
Samuel Ward
John A. Ward
Eugene Ward
Joseph L. Ward
Richard H. Ward
Sarah Maude Ward

I am looking for Ellen's parents names and their ancestors and decendants. I have looked for info over 10 years now and have found nothing.
Would appreciate any help offered.
