I am related to Robert Allen, Sr., (circa 1715-1790) of Augusta Co., VA. By his first wife (neme unknown) he had a son named Robert Allen, Jr., (1741-1788) who married Jane Turk (my ancestors). By his second wife, Martha __?__ he had a daughter, Elizabeth Allen, born May 7, 1768, who married Samuel Meek (born August 16, 1763. Both of these children Allen have Bumgardner connections.
Samuel and Elizabeth (Allen) Meek had a son named Mounticue Allen Meek (born September 26, 1790) who married Susanna Gabret (sp?) (born November 1, 1789) on November 20, 1817. They had a son Hezekiah Meek born April 1, 1827.
There are two pages from a bible record of Mounticue Allen Meek that came down the Hezekiah Meek line that were submitted as evidence for DAR entry. I have a copy of these two pages. On the first page, in the left hand column, it gives the death dates of Robert Allen, Sr., and his second wife, Martha, the death date of Elizabeth Meek (September 12, 1823, the birth and death dates of Susanna Gabret (she died on October _?_, 1870) and the marriage date of Mounticue Allen Meek and Susanna Gabret. In the left hand column is gives the birth date of Jane Bumgardner of January 16, 1811 and a death date of August 29, 1898 (believed to be Jane's death date). I cannot figure out who Jane Bumgardner was and how she fit into the family. I wonder if she was the second wife of either Samuel Meek or Mounticue Allen Meek?
Robert Allen, Jr.'s widow, Jane Allen left Augusta Co., VA and moved with her 11 children to Cumberland Co., KY about 1798. She sold her land to James Flack. James Flack sold some of the land to Isaac Hayes. Isaac Hayes died before 1805 and his administrators were Jacob Bumgardner and Claudius Buster. There was a lawsuit in Augusta Co., VA that made it to the Virginia Court of Appears between at least 1805 and 1812 entitled Jane Allen v. Jacob Bumgardner over some title defect to the property that had been sold by Jane Allen. The lawsuit papers say that Jacob Bumgardner eventually purchased part of this land from a forclosure sale to satisfy Jane Allen's mortgage.
I did not initially think there was any genealogical connection between Robert Allen, Jr., or Jane (Turk) Allen, his widow, and Jacob Bumgardner. However, the appearance of the name of Jane Bumgardner in the bible records that also contains the death dates of Robert Allen, Jr.'s father and stepmother, causes me to wonder. I wonder if Jane Bumgardner was a daughter of Jacob Bumgardner?
