Joseph Bulmer and wife Sarah Bulmer are buried in Valley Brook Cemetery, Osage County, near Overbrook, KS. Joseph and Sarah met at the home of an Aunt who had married Sarah's brother. They married Aug. 15, 1874. Four sons were born in England before 1880: John, David (died during scarlet fever epidemic), Ernest, and Joseph Robert. 1880 Joseph made journey to America, and eventually arrived Carbondale, KS where he found work as a coal miner. He sent for his family who arrived in June 1881. First daughter, Lettie, born 1882. Joseph Robert drowned in 1884. Milner Walton was born Dec 1886. Summer of 1887 they joined railroad crew, helping build AT&SF railroad through western Kansas. Sarah Josephine was born Feb 1888, and they moved to "Lickskillet" community NE of Overbrook. Joseph worked in mines at Scranton and Carbondale during winter months, and stayed home and farmed during growing season. Leslie Roy, Louisa (lived 3 days), Mary Ann, and Henry Bertram born between 1888 and 1896 when they moved to 160 acres located west of Michigan Valley, KS. Lloyd Everett and Joseph Gladstone were last children born. In 1907 Joseph Bulmer and son Milner Bulmer purchased a grain elevator in Michigan Valley known as Bulmer Grain Company.
Joseph Bulmer died June 3, 1931. Sarah Bulmer died Sept. 3, 1943. Milner Bulmer died Oct. 1952. At this time there are 12 persons with surname BULMER buried in Valley Brook Cemetery, and more who are descendants of Joseph and Sarah Bulmer.
