Bulman 1800s in Ireland (poss England/US?)
Hi there!
I'm working on my family tree for my mother, and have hit my first road-block - mainly trying to confirm where my ancestors actually came from.
I've gone back to around 1874 when my gg-grandfather arrived in New Zealand aboard the 'Carrick Castle' (left from Cobh (then called Queenstown), Ireland) with his family. Here is what I know so far:
Arthur Bulman (also listed as "Bullman") was apparently born in Co. Kerry around 1832.He married Catherine Gairn (though I've seen her referenced as Katherine and Kate, and also the last name of Garran and Gerran!).Catherine was born around 1839, but I don't know where.
Their death notice said that they were, "previously of England and America; married in England".
By the time they left for New Zealand they had several children:
BulmanAnthony11
BulmanJeremiah11
BulmanRobert10
BulmanMary4
BulmanWilliam-- (Infant)
And Catherine was pregnant at the time with my great-grandfather, Arthur, who was born at sea.Of the children, I know that Anthony was born in England, various references say Greenwich and Kent.Mary was born in Co. Kerry.
I'm hoping that some information may be able to pin the family down a little more so I know where to concentrate. So, any help would be greatly appreciated!
- Katie
