Amy, I don't know about James Lavergne Bullock but I do know a little about Alfia Pate's, Bullock ancestors. Alfia is the granddaughter of Alfred Pate and Mary Ella Bullock Pate of Chilton Co., AL. I haven't been able to determine who Ella's parents were at this time but, in 1870 US Baker Co., AL. Census and 1880 US Chilton Co., Al. Census she was living in the household of her grandmother KEZIAH BULLOCK b. 1809 Ga. Keziah's tombstone lists her as Kizziah N Bullock b. 10 May 1809 died 13 March 1899 and is buried at Mars Hill Church Cemetery in Chilton Co., AL. Mary Ella Bullock pate is also buried in the same cemetery. Ella is actually buried beside Alfie's mother Mary Elizabeth Braswell Pate. Kizziah [miaden name unknown] married Richard Bullock. He disappears after the 1860 US Shelby Co., AL. Census.

Hope this helps you. It might not be that Lavergne's family of Bullocks was from Alabama but that the family knew that they had Bullock relatives in Alabama which they do. It's all a little confusing.

In case your wondering how I know all of this, it is because your grandmother Alfia and my mother are 1st cousins.
