BULLOCK, CHARLES d. 1898 in Canada

I am trying to fill in a piece of my genealogy puzzle regarding a Charles Bullock. He was married to my g.g. grandmother, Manie Embree in Oakland County Michigan in abt. 1897. They had a baby, Guy, in 1898. When the baby was about 6 months old, he went by stagecoach to Canada (don't know where) to see about a job with another man. As the story goes, when he arrived, there was just Charles. He was apparently convicted of murder and hanged in Canada. Some say that this story was written up in a "true detective" magazine in the late 1930's/1940's. Any assistance would be appreciated. Don't have DOB for Charles.
