Henry Buller was born in PA (either Westchester or Chambersburg) on Nov. 22, 1832. He moved to Ohio at the age of 2 and later migrated to Illinois. He married Martha Jane Head who was born in 1809 in Pontotoc, Miss. Lines of her family can be traced back to kings of Scotland and even back to 117 AD. Henry died April 19, 1922 in Adams County, Ill at the Quincy Illinois Soldiers & Sailors Home; Martha also died in Illinois. They were married June 8, 1892 in Brown County. Henry was a coal miner, although he served on the USS Pittsburgh, a gunboat that saw many civil war battles on the Mississippi river. Prior thereto, he had enlisted as a private in Stewart's Battalion, Missouri Calvary. He served under the name Thomas Burke so his parents wouldn't know he had enlisted and so they wouldn't worry. He became ill while serving, which may have contributed to his ultimate death, and was discharged 2/8/62. I am one of his great grandchildren. I have been unable to determine who his parents are. My information has been obtained from death certificates, US pension records, etc. He was 5'10-1/2" tall, brown hair, 135 pounds.
