Hi Dan,
I'm not sure why they changed the name. I do know that a lot of families that came to the U.S. decided to make a name for themselves. Farmers, ranchers, and business owners wanted to separate themselves to be known by others. If there were a lot of Bullers, it could have had to do with some of the other family members wanting to have their own business name. I have relatives on my tree that were from the Ohio area. Farmers and ranchers, I believe. Now most of them live in or around Texas. I'll let you know if I find out exactly why they changed the name to Bullard.
