Yes, I sent for his original SS application, but it was $27, not $39 -- perhaps I did not ask for the right form?

I found my Grandfather's Father's name on the Ellis Island records and at first was confused because my Grandfather's name was Mitu Trifunoff, but his father's name was listed as Trifun Miteff. I guess this is an example of patronymic way of naming children . . .

Do you, or does anybody know if all the children in a family were named thus? Would they all they their father's first name as their last? If not, then it would make searching for siblings a very difficult job. This post may not be the right place to ask this question, but I am relatively new to my search and I have a lot of questions!!!

Thanks for your help.
