Jim, I have some info that may help you trace "roots" back to Scotland. (I see my sister Anne Trick has replied as well).
John Buie was married to Annie Mackay in Islay, Scotland and they had 2 children Annie & Angus.
Angus ( born 1777- died 1870) was married to a Catherine MacKay ( born 1779- died 1852) They emigrated to Canada in 1847 to Ontario. Info I have is they were 4 miles south of Collingwood Ontario. Angus & Catherine had 7 children ( Donald, Robert, Alexander John, Neil,Catherine, Angus, Walter). I am related to Alexander John Buie (born 1818 Simcoe County died Oct 20, 1903). He was married to a Graham McLean (born 1827- died June 18, 1869) They had 10 children ( Angus, Flora, Catherine, Annie, Archibald Lane, Allan, Mary, John, Graham, Barbara. ) Archibald Lane was my Great Grandfather. He was married to Joane Montgomery Poole. They had 9 children ( Catherine, Mary, Ella, Annie, Alwyn John, Fern, Effie, Heather, Lois. My Grandfather and namesake was Alwyn John Buie.

Want more info- send me an e-mail.
