Surnames: BUCHHEIT, BUCKHEIT, BUHLER, GALLAHER, GOLLAGHER, GOLLIHER, MURRAY, ROGERS, WARDELL I am still searching for a BUHLER connection to my family lineage. Can any one help? George Buhler ROGERS (1867-1899). He lived in Burton, Adams County, Illinois and died in Hannibal, Marion county, Missouri. He was the son of John M. WARDELL (alias John M. ROGERS) and Elizabeth Caroline GOLLIHER (surname spelling varies). According to military pension papers for the Civil War, John, was born abt.1839 in Syracuse, New York and may have died abt. 1878 in Natchez, Miss. He served in the Company G, 2nd New Mexico Inf. and became a Sgt. Major for the Union side. Elizabeth, John's wife was born abt.1848 in Rock Island, IL. She was the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth MURRAY GOLLAGHER. Patrick & Elizabeth married in Rock Island, IL in 1848. Their parents had to sign for the marriage. Patrick's father was John GALLAHER of Warsaw, Hancock County, IL. and Elizabeth's mother was Miranda MURRAY of Rock Island. IL., but no husband signature was on the document nor any name of husband. So my Miranda was married to a MURRAY but as we know that was not her maiden name. There was talk that and even on several census we have found it states she was born at sea and was of German decent none of which has been confirmed. Miranda was born either in Germany or at sea coming to America according to census records. Other children of Patrick & Elizabeth GOLLAGHER were: James born abt 1845 IL William born abt. 1853 IL Michael born abt.1855 IL Clara Ann born abt. 1858 IL. married John BUCKHEIT or BUCHHEIT 1872 West Quincy, Marion Co. MO. Divorced 1874 in Quincy, Adams Co. IL. Thank you, Judi Gilker PS. John M. ROGERS and his wife, Elizabeth Caroline divorced in Quincy, IL in 1874. Elizabeth C. married William E. LANE and lived in Hannibal, Mo. She was nicknamed "Granny LANE". Notify Administrator about this message?
