A relative of mine sent me this from the San Augustine Red-Lander in Texas about Thomas J. Buford:
"County of Shelby
...wereas on the 29th day of January 1853, Robert McWilliams filed his petition...complains that Martha Buford and Thomas J. Buford defendants, in this, that the said Martha Buford by the name and description of Martha Foster on the 13th day of August, 1850, signed and delivered to Hiram Allen her writing obligatory. Defendant Thomas J. Buford's residence is uknown to plaintiff."
I believe that this Thomas J. Buford is the same born 1813 in Tennessee and died 1860 in Giles Co., TN. I also have a Bible entry that states that Laura J. Beauford was born (perhaps in Shelby Co., TX) on 9 Oct 1952.
In the 1860 San Augustine census, there is a Thomas Buford (age 26), Maggie Buford (age 17), Laura (age 9), and Willie (age 7) all living with a Leticia Simpson. Would these children be the children of Thomas J. Buford?
All records I have seen of Thomas J. Buford doesn't show him married to Martha Foster (my ggg-grandmother)
