I am seeking parents, family, etc. of my ggggg grandmother Letitia Buford b. 1715 VA who about 1734 married in Middlesex County VA a Crispin Shelton (s/o Ralph Shelton and Mary Crispin). Middlesex is just across the Rappahannock from Lancaster Co where many Beuaforts were at the time.
Letitia and Crispin lived first in Middlesex, bought land in Essex Co, and then moved ca. 1740 to Amelia County VA and finally to Pittsylvania Co in 1760 or so. Crispin's parents also went as far as Amelia County.
Since my Letitia is not the one about two generations later who married a Ragsdale, I offer the following land purchase, children's names and further marriages as clues.
What I note with great interest is that in 1747, Crispin sold land in Amelia to two gentlemen: (1) a Henry "Blueford" (sic) of Amelia and (2) a James Beuford, in court records noted to be of ORANGE Co , which is Culpepper's neighboring county to the South, where there were many other Bufords.
Also here are the names of children of Letitia and Crispin. We don't know much about Ralph Shelton and Mary Crispin's parents, or siblings so if there are family names some could be theirs:
(1) Beverly md. Anne Coleman; (2) Armistead md. Susannah Shelton (cousin of course); (3) Lewis Shelton; (4) William Shelton; (5)Spencer Shelton md Clary Shelton (cousin of course); 6 Elizabeth Shelton md. Moses Hurt; (7) Jane Shelton md. William Todd; (8) Susannah Shelton md. Griffith Dickerson; (9) Gabriel Shelton md. (a) Elizabeth Shephard and (b) Mary BUFORD (my step-grandparent); (10) Abraham Shelton md. Chloe Robertson; and (11) Vincent Shelton and Susannah Robertson. My descent is through no less than THREE of the brothers, Beverly, Gabriel and Vincent.
Two Buford cousins are as follows, all marriages in Pittsylvania Co VA: (1) Elizabeth Buford md. Gregory Shelton (s/o Gabriel and Elizabeth Shepherd above), and (2) William Buford md. Susannah Robertson Shelton (d/o Vincent and Susannah Robertson above).
I realize there has been some earlier discusion on Letitia and a request for children's names of Letitia and Crispin.
Any help would be much appreciated.
