I do know that there were Buffum cotton mills in a section of Oxford, MA known as Buffumville in the 1800s. Moses Buffum appears to be the original owner of these mills and census maps of Massachusetts from the 1800s show the mills and the family residences. My brother-in-law is a direct descendent of this family as his maternal grandmother's last name was Buffum.

Also, there appear to be Buffums in Douglas, MA and I noticed online that there is a Buffum cemetary in that town. Both of these towns are close to the Rhode Island border.
