Joel's remains are still in Ohio. The cemetery was plowed under for farming and a descendent (would have to be through Hezekiah) found the marker leaning against a fence. He brought it back to Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa and erected it in the family plot as a memorial to Joel.
Over the years I've learned that certain areas are what I refer to as 'Buffington Hotbeds', places the family took root in and flourished - Buffington Island area, Louisa County, IA and Glenwood, IA are great examples; as is SE Missouri.I'm just beginning my exploration in MO, so to speak.
I've been subscribing to Ancestry, but let my subscription lapse until I find employment at the moment. It is very useful as a research backbone in combination with other LDS related sites - Rootsweb, GenForum, GenWeb, etc.I've learned that the LDS records submitted by family members is not always accurate.I have several examples regarding near relatives that I knew quite well.I've upset some LDS cousins when I've provided documented information to the contrary.A lesson, I think in being very careful on not doing enough research.I'm always grateful to meet others who try very hard to document their sources on specific information.
BTW, in going through GenForum postings for Abraham Columbus Buffington, I read your information on his family.I think I can provide more detailed or more accurate information. Not all the CA children for example were born in San Simeon Township. They were in Santa Rosa Township first.
I'll have to figure out how to best get it to you.Message boards are not ideal.Maybe I'll updload to Rootsweb.I quit uploading awhile back based on concerns for identity theft, but I believe all the sights have now introduced algorithms to hide the identities of living descendents.
