Richard,
I'm in total agreement. I have been speaking to Doug who is a 1st cousin 2 or 3times removed. He is decendant from Samuel Gaston Buffington my Great Grand Uncle. As I said before Samuel and Franklin my Great Grandfather were the only sons who married. Samuel and his family moved to Texas and Frank stayed in Missouri by his parents. He was the younger of the two.LOL
I have a lot of stored information I have decided to share with everyone so it doesn't get lost. I have computers that crash because I have to build them. If I could access my 160 gig hard drive I could flood the internet. I always downloaded the information I was using because I didn't want to lose anything and back then I didn't know anything about the internet.
I have found you can't trust the information remaining on line. With Ancestry buying everything it is hard to find the old records. I just don't have the time to search their databases and the archives. Ancestry has revoked access to there records by the FHC of the LDS Church so those of us who don't subscribe have no access. The LDS church is indexing all of the information they have collected throughout the years. As soon as the church volunteers index information it will become available at their family history sites.
Another source of information is what my Aunt sent my sister in letters. My sister died in 2000 and I have all of her research now. If I just had more time to glean the bits and pieces of information in the letters. Aunt Bertha was born in 1893 so she learned some things from family that she provided my sister in letters.
If all of us work together we will probably be able to find the answers. The Quakers had wonderful records. If anyone knows how to access those records now please post. If they are in Genealogy lib. around the country I will be happy to look for them.
Most of the genealogy ebooks at the Brigham Young UNiversity lib. are accessable on line. You might need a lib. card from your local lib to get the info.
A gentelman contacted me on line a few years back. He said that Joseph's children removed Joel's remaines and buried them in Iowa. I think that was when the Island became a Historical Site. Our best bet is land records from that time. I believe the community that Joel grew up in was Indian Hills, Hampshire County, Virginia.
Karl Seitz has much of the information that I have found but has taken great notes for his sources. Thanks for sharing. I have the corrected information for the Buffington Book and will check it for the sources Ms Jennings has made. I believe she was the one that put the book together and Ralph edited it. I like to give the credit to the right person. I could be wrong. I know Ralph had a huge library in his home in Texas. I met him in 1977 and went to his home. The Clayton Library in Houston also had a large library for genealogy research. I was living in University City at the time.
