I have a book listed on ebay that has a biography of George Knight Budd. It also has a steel plate engraving photo of him with his signature. (The book was printed in 1883 and is called "History of Saint Louis City and County". It is item # 4206162576 I will list some of the information as follows...I can't list it all as it is too long: Where I've placed the dots (.....) there is much more information.; George Knight Budd was born in Philadelphia Feb. 12, 1802. He was the son of George Budd and Susanna Britton, a combination of two old and celebrated families of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, originally from England. In his early life he was engaged in maritime pursuits as supercargo for Henry Pratt..........In the fall of 1835 he visited visited the West with a view of selecting a locality for mercantile persuits, and after seeing Cincinnati and Louisville came to St. Louis..........he came to St. Louis bringing his family with him in the same year with Wayman Crow, between whom and himself there existed a warm personal friendship.......after two or three years he abandoned the mercantile business.......1846 he was elected to the Council from the fifth ward........he was elected comptroller.....he resigned in order to take charge of the management and publication of the St. Louis Intelligencer.......The Boatman's Savings-Bank was founded in part by him.............Mr. Budd died on the 24th of September, 1875 full of years and rich in respect of his fellow businessmen......his death was regarded as a severe loss..........Mr. Budd left a wife and five children...Marcia D. Budd, Charles P. Budd, Helen W. Budd, Wayman Crow Budd, and Belle N. Budd, now Mrs. Capt. Robert B. WAde. Mr. Budd's wife was Rebecca Neff Patterson of Philadelphia wo whom he was married before he moved to St. Louis........Mr. Budd was a professing Christian................
