Joseph Purdy, Judge, under age in 1661, removed to Rye NY in 1670, d. 29 Oct 1709.Married Elizabeth, daug. of John and Judith (Budd) Ogden (she died 1742).They had 11 children. In his will, Joseph gives his "movable estate", use of the house and barn, and one-half of the farm, during her life, to his wife, Elizabeth, provided she does not marry again.He leaves "to my eldest son Joseph all my right of land and meadows in the White Plain Purchase, lying on the west side of Mamaroneck River which I had by draft from the town of Rye."He leaves to his son Daniel, the land given him by deed of gift, and other land; to his son Samuel, "one-half of my lot and farm where I now live, except my dwelling house and barn."Also "one-half of my land on Budd's Neck."He leaves to his son David, land in Brown's Point.To his sons, Jonathan and John, lands in Pond field and Lame Wills Purchase.To his son Francis, "after my wife's decease, or when she shall think fit to put him in possession, my dwelling house and barn, and one-half of my home lot and farm, where I now live, and one-half of my land on Budd's Neck."He leaves to daughters Elizabeth, Jude, Mary and Phebe each 20 shillings.He directs his wife to divide the rest of his movable estate among his children.Witnesses to the will were his wife, Elizabeth Ogden, Abraham Miller, Anthony Miller.Will was proved before Governor Robert Hunter 26 October 1710.
