In one genealogy I found, John Budd's wife was given as Katherine Browne. In his will dated 27 October 1684, he names "Mary" as his wife. He also bequeaths to her, "the negro woman called Catherine and her child." He names John as his eldest son, bequeaths him his land and other items, and directs that he not marry without the consent of the executors or his share will reduce to 2/3 of the bequest. He further directs that John not sell any part of his bequest before he reaches age 25 without the consent of the executors. He then bequeaths to his son Joseph, his interest in a "neck of land in Westchester . . . between Blind Brook and Mamaroneck River . . . and the house and other improvements on said land." He makes bequests to his daughter, Mary, wife of Christopher Youngs, and to his daughter Hannah, wife of Jonathan Hart, to daughter, Ann one half of his right of land and meadow at Acquabock, and to daughter Sarah 30 pounds, when she arrives at the age of 18." There is no mention in the abstract of his will of a Jane (Joan) or Judith Budd.

The date of his will was taken from an abstract published in the NYGBR. This date appears to be in error, as he is referred to as "deceased" in the land records in 1683. The will was proved at a Court of Oyer and Terminer held at Southampton in the county of Suffolk on the 18th day of November, 1684, and Mr.John Tuthill and Mr. Isaac Arnold were appointed executors. The same is confirmed February 23, 1685.

The inventory of his estate was filed March 4 1685, New York Inventories, File No. 20, at pages 11-15.

On 6 Dec. 1689, Jonathan Hart, living in Rye, was granted a Power of Attorney, by John Tuthill of Southold, to act as Sub-Executor to the estate of John Budd, dec'd., during the non-age of Joseph Budd, son of said John Budd.
