My name is Laura and I am a volunteer in the Henry County Tn Library Genealogy Department. While doing some research I found an odd surname and one NOT prevelant to Henry County, let alone Tennessee, in some old court records. Seems the body of a young man was found and there had been an inquiry. It appeared that his buggy and horse had gone over a revine. He was crushed by horse and likely died upon inpact. When found, he had no personal belongings with him, only $62. They would not have known his name were it not written inside of his hat and on a small piece of paper in his pocket. He does not appear to be buried in Henry County, however with so little funds they may have buried him in a paupers grave with no stone. I thought I might look into this and find his origin. According to the census previous to his death (1880) he is a bookeeper living in Rutherford County TN. The same census said that his origin of birth is Pennsylvania. I checked the 1870 Pennsylvnia census and found an Edward Budd (a bookeeper) living with his father E.S. Budd. in Mercer County PA. He is not living in the household, nor in Mercer Co., in 1880. I cannot positively conclude that this is the correct match but thought to put this small bit on info on the net in hopes that it helps some family with a connection. Truthfully, I cannot bear someone being lost. Good luck and I hope that this is beneficial to someone. Sincerely, Laura Notify Administrator about this message?
