I just ran across this little item which I think raises more questions than it answers re: Joseph Buckmaster and Wilson Buckmaster:
HENRY BUCKMASTER Will the following a hint to the genealogist be appropriate to publication. The information was received Wooster Ohio in December last. The Hon Henry Buckmaster of that place informed me that he was born in Georgetown Pennsylvania his father and having borne the name of Wilson Buckmaster and his great grandfather the name of Joseph. The last named Joseph according to the family tradition belonged to Massachusetts married a lady of Virginia and served in the French war from which he never returned. His widow with her children returned to her friends in Virginia. Here her son Wilson by a boyish impulse followed a man resembling his father whom met in the street to Baltimore where he remained obtained employment and resided marrying a Richardson. He died after the close of the war of the Revolution his age not over forty years never having revisited his friends in New England. WB CHICAOO 1858

Col. Joseph Buckmaster did not die in the war as stated above. The French War in this case may refer to the siege of Port Royal which Joseph did take part in 1710 but that was prior to Wilson's birth.Of course there were subsequent French wars in the 1720-1750's but Joseph died in 1743 in Framingham.Any thoughts folks?I'm intrigued!
