I spoke too soon. According to the Joseph Bucklin Society (which I believe to be unequalled in its information concerning "things Bucklin"), John (referred to as "Capt. John")married the sister of (Jerusha) of the John Eaton to which you refer; he and Jeremiah were in fact brothers (so much for that "distant relationship"). They were the children of Joseph Bucklin and Susanna Jenks (or Jencks). Thus, the 1806 John Bucklin was the nephew of the 1717 John Bucklin.
