Hello!
My great grandfather was named Daniel Buckley. I do not know his birth year, but I believe he died in 1936. He was the last mounted horse policeman in Galveston. I have a picture of him wearing a 10-gallon hat standing next to his horse Lady Bug.
He had a son named Daniel, but I think the middle initial was L. He also had several daughters...among them Celeste Forsgard, Mary Parker (my grandmother), Elva (don't know her married name) and Laura (married name sounds like svertzveggar).
Daniel Buckley is buried in the old Catholic cemetary in Galveston....in the center of the island.
His family survived the 1900 hurricane thanks, in large part, to him and his city connection. My grandmother was 3 years old at the time.
We donated his old pocket watch to the Moody Museum on the island many years ago.
My father, now 88, loved him dearly. There are many great stories about Grandpa Buckley that show him to be a real lawman of the wild west kind.
