I noticed quite a few people have information on this family, but I will add what I have from a book on Churches in the Hardy Co. WV area.

"Because of its great contribution to the District and Brotherhood through its ministers and family connections, the Bucklew family deserves especial consideeration."

"The Bucklew family has an ancient Protestant heritage going back to the time of the French Huguenots. The family then lived in the border region of Alsace-Lorraine. Because of persecution, they fled northward into the Rhine River region of Germany. Shortly, two of the Boilcau brothers, Gilbert and Francis, migrated to the New World, settling on Long Island about 1663."

"Francis later moved to South Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey where the spelling of the name was changed to Bucklew. Francis, who was born in 1640 is said to have died in 1750 at the age of 110 years. Francis had four sons, including Samuel who was born around 1677 and who married Mary Campbell. Samuel and Mary had three daughters and two sons, one of whom was Andrew."

"Andrew Bucklew, who settled in Maryland and died around 1805, had children, one of whom was William. William settled in Preston County (WV) near Bruceton Mills around 1790 and married Mary A. Michael in 1792. They had eleven children: Philip, Mary, Elizabeth, Annie, Sarah, William, Jonas, James, Andrew, Jonathan, and John."

"Philip was married to Catherine Miller in Preston County, and they apprently became Brethren at an early period in the Cheat River Congregation. Their children included William, Solomon, George, all ministers; Mary, the wife of Elder James A. Ridenour; and Susan who became the wife of George Isaac Wolfe, the Brethren family of the Glade View Church, Eglon Congregation."

"William (son of Philip and Catherine) was an extremely active and well-known minister. He preached widely in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and in other states. William, born Feb. 10, 1827 and died in 1920, was married to Emily Sharps ca. 1850. William was chosen as a deacon in 1857 and elected to the ministry at Cheat River in 1858. Later he was advanced to the eldership, uniting with the Old Order Movement around 1882."

"William and Emily eventually moved to near Dayton, Ohio where he continued to serve inthe ministry, having been ordained by the Old German Baptist Brethren. He returned to the Church of the Brethren in 1901 at Salem, Ohio, for afew years, then rejoined the Old German Baptist Brethren in which faith he died at the home of his nephen Walter Buckley, Salem, Ohio, on Jan. 17, 1920, aged ninety-two. Services were held by Henry Filbrun and William Minnich in the Old Order Brethren Church near Salem, and burial was in the Warner Cemetery (Gospel Messenger, 1920, 110)."

"William was in great demand as an evangelist, preaching in numerous churches both east and west. He made several important missionary journeys in the 1860s into the churches of former Second District, baptizing many and helping to establish churches there. Because of this work and his ministry at Cheat River, he is of great importance to the history of the West Marva District."

"Marcellus (son of William and Emily) was born in Preston County (WV) on April 2, 1855, and died May 27, 1919; married Letitia J. Simmons of Pendleton County. Elder William Bucklew lived for a time in the Tearcoat Congregation, and while in that area, Marcellus was married. Marcellus remained in the Tearcoat Congregation and served as a minister there, making a significant contribution to the early history of that church. After the division of 1882, Marcellus united with the Old German Baptist Brethren Church."

"Marcellus and Letitia Bucklew had ten children, several of whom are of special interest to Brethren history: Emily May, born May 1, 1881, married William L. Riggleman. William was a minister of the Church of the Brethren from Bean Settlement Congregation. He served there and in a number of pastorages in the West Marva District and elswhere. Melissa Florence (daughter of Marcellus) born May 8, 1886, married Marion L. Riggleman on April 28, 1909 of the Bean Settlement Congregation. He was licensed to preach on April 7, 1828 and ordained as elder on Nov. 3, 1929 (the first date should probably be 1928). He was active in the ministry at Bean Settlement as free minister and elder for many years."

There is obviously more information on this family, but I do not have other pages. I do not have the title of the book, but it is apparently about the Brethren Church in the Virginia, WV, Maryland area. I am not related to any of these people and do not have further information on them.
