Buckingham Role in the Settlement of the "Sufferers' Land"

I have started a blog at http://firelands.wordpress.com that tells the history of the founding of the town of Norwalk, Ohio in 1817 during the settlement of the Firelands or “Sufferers’ Land,” a part of the Western Reserve that was given to “Sufferers” burned out of their homes by the British during the Revolution. The story of one of the early settlers of the Firelands, Fanny Buckingham, daughter of Henry Buckingham and Harriet Talcott, is a major part of this history.

I post an episode of this history on my blog every Monday and will continue until November 2009. I have also posted a genealogy for the ancestors of Fanny Buckingham that was compiled by my great-grandmother and grandmother from 1910 to 1977. The Buckingham’s settled in New England in 1637. Fanny’s grandmother, Vienna Bradford, was a descendant of William Bradford, who came to Plymouth, Massachusetts on the Mayflower in 1620 and was the colony’s second governor.

My fondest wish is that people interested in the history of the Buckingham family will be entertained and informed by these postings and fill in gaps and correct inaccuracies in my research.

Thank you for your kind attention. I hope you visit my blog and enjoy my story of Fanny Buckingham and the settling of the “Sufferers’ Land.”
