This is a long shot but thought I would give it a try.
1830 My John Rose is in Wayne Co, TN for the 1830 census, with his young wife & 3 children.
There is a Noah Higgins on this 1830 Wayne Co, TN census, three pages away.
1840 John Rose is in Illinois, Washington Co, Nashville twp.
He now has 5 kids and NO wife. Two of the children are born in Illinois, so we know she was still alive in 1837/38.
1850 John Rose (no wife) and his 5 kids are in Page Co, IA.
Here is where the Buckingham comes in. I really lucked out on the 1840 ILL census, because they only list the name of the head of household but the same families are living next to him on this 1840 ILL census as are in the 1850 IA census, They all moved together. What luck for me. Since he was widowed with small children, I am thinking maybe his wife was a Buckingham and they all stayed together to help with the children. Or it could be they were just close friends.
