I am interested in any information you may have on the William Buckholts that settled in Georgia. I've seen my line's name spelled as Buckholts, Buckholtz, Buckhalter, etc., quite common mistakes due to errors in census reports & educational limitations of the time. Our family goes by the name "Buckhalt," but probably many of the variations are related. I have traced my family back to 1843 when my Great Great Grandfather James (Jim) Buckhalt married Julia A. (?Jackson) in Houston Cnty Ga (name shown as Buckholtz). I've found them in the 1850 RAndolph Cnty. Ga. census (shown as Buckhalter), the 1860 Alabama, Dale Cnty census (shown as Buckshalt) and then my GGGGrandmother as a widown with children in the 1870 Georgia, Quitman Census, with an older son James next door (both shown as Buckhalts). People migrated then looking for lands & better conditions as lands opened up. How much information to you have on the William Buckholts that settled in Ga.?
It is possible we both have ties to him.
Looking forward to sharing information if we can find a possible connection.
