I have a Gottfried Buchholz who with wife Ernestine Zastrow and children moved to Sheboygan County, WI (Town Herman) about 1855 from Niagara County, NY, where they had moved from somewhere in Prussia in the late 1840s. They later had a farm in Manitowoc Co. for a time. Two sons, August and Wilhelm, enlisted in the Civil War as teenagers and died of typhus. Gottfried died in 1887 in Sheboygan. His son Georg changed his last name to Beachwood and moved to Clark Co., WI. Family lore is that Gottfried had a number of brothers, "none" of whom would wipe on the same towel" -- i.e., not a close family. Ring any bells?
