A Y-DNA match on 12 markers has proven that the 1735 immigrant to Cocalico Township, Lancaster Co. PA, Hans Bucher (1681-1762), is related to a Samuel Christian Bucher (1808-1866) who died in Cumberland County, PA. This is a new discovery as Samuel was not known to be part of this family in previously published trees and books including “The Bucher Family” by Gladys Bucher Sowers. The discovery came about when a known descendant of Hans’ son Benedict, recently joined our Bucher Y-DNA research at http://www.SiteServers.net/family/dna and matched a known descendant of Samuel Bucher. Their DNA tests are now being upgraded from 12 to 37 markers to allow better prediction of the generation when Samuel and Hans Bucher shared their common ancestor. Many early 1700’s generations of Hans’ family are undocumented so we suspect future DNA tests on other males will uncover more lost branches of the Hans Bucher family, which originated in Bern, Switzerland. http://www.SiteServers.net/family/tree/2196.htm is the tree for Hans Bucher b.1681 http://www.SiteServers.net/family/tree/4067.htm is the tree for Samuel Bucher b.1808 Samuel married Leah Yundt and the Pennsylvania couple was in West Earl Township, Lancaster County in 1850 before appearing in 1860 in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County.
