Sylvester Bucher's PA origins?

Hi! I'm looking for any information re: the birthdate, birthplace, parentage, etc of my great-grandfather SYLVESTER BUCHER who was born abt 1854 in Pennsylvania (county unknown).
I have been unable to locate a census record for him in 1860, but he is listed in the 1870 and 1880 census as a resident of St. Jospeh Co, MI and died in Elkhart Co, IN on 28 Nov 1882.
The 1870 census record gave his parents' names as Henry and Caroline, but his death record gives the parents' names as John and Mary J. He had two sisters, Mary and Sarabelle? or Corabelle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
