I'm looking for a Myrtle Buchanan (or Buchanon) who married a Robert Guyton on 27 Oct 1906 in Lee Co., Mississippi. I can find absolutely no record of her before this marriage, nor after the 1920 census. I believe she may have died in childbirth or from illness sometime between 1925 and 1929. I have two reasons to believe this: 1. In 1930, Robert Guyton is living with a new wife and stepchild, but also with all seven of the older children born to him and Myrtle. 2. Many women died in childbirth and a small percentage still do. Fatal illness was also not an uncommon occurrence due to the lack of effective medicine. The only clues I have about Myrtle's ancestry are her maiden name and her probable year of birth (1893). The 1920 census reports that she was from Arkansas and so was her father, but there was no information about her mother. There is a theory that Myrtle had a sister who married one of Robert's brothers, George Hubbard Guyton, in 1904. I am extremely skeptical about this because the alleged sister, Naomi, was born in Michigan in 1886 according to the California death index. Naomi's maiden name has been spelled "Buckhannon" in public family trees. I realize many records from the early 1900s are poorly transcribed or misspelled and "Buckhannon" could be "Buchanan," but I still feel it is unlikely that Myrtle's father would've left Arkansas to move to Michigan, had Naomi while he lived there, then moved his family back to Arkansas in time for Myrtle's birth in 1893. Any feedback would be appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
