His father was John Buchanan and his mother's first name was Sarah b. 1808 John was a farmer in Person County, North Carolina. Their children were Washington b. 1830, Joseph W. b. 1832, John W. and Sarch C. Clayton. Washington (Wash)left Person County, NC in 1872. He moved to Union County, Kentucky where he owned 85 acres of land in Boxville Precinct. He raised tobacco. He married Mary M. Murphy Jan. 8, 1857 in Caswell County, NC They had 11 children (I think you have their names). Washington was in the Civil War while living in Person County, NC. He enlisted as a Private on March 5, 1862 at the age of 31. He was in Company A, 24th Infantry Regiment NC. Wounded on Sept. 17, 1862 at Sharpsburg, MD. Returned on Jan. 30, 1863 (estimated day). (Sources: NC Troops 1861-65 A Roster. (NCRosterC) Published in 1993.) His brothers John W. and Joseph W. were also in the same regiment. Washington died March 28, 1900. Mary died May 13, 1891. She had been shopping in one store and was crossing the street to another store when she had a heart attack. Both are buried in McClures Cemetery near Boxville, Kentucky. Their son William Lee and his wife Sarah Ellen (Sigler) (my ancestors are also buried in this same cemetery- which I visited in the 1970's) Another son, M. J. is also buried there. I have more informtion on William and do have pictures of him. If you would like copies I would be glad to send them to you. Also a little more info on who some of Washington's children married.
