Others on this board have researched this a lot longer than I, but I put in my 2 cents:

John Brown Buchanan b. 1787 (not my line by the way) was the son of Samuel/Elizabeth Duncan. Samuel was son of Samuel Sr. who married a Martha. I don't believe the last name has been proved yet. It could be Keys, it could be Edmiston.

The parentage of Samuel Sr. is unknown. Dr. Howard Jones has found reference to an older Samuel Buchan in Chester Co. PA (land records of 1737) however there is no proven connection.

It seems likely that Matthew Buchanan b. abt 1720 in Chester Co. PA was a brother to Samuel Sr. Matthew named his oldest son Samuel as well, indicating that Samuel may be the dad's name.

It would indeed have been very helpful to us looking at this family 250 years later if there hadn't been so many Samuels! (grin)

If anyone has proof on the parents of Samuel and Matthew, I would love to see it!

Good Luck!
