I am posting this in hope that it will help someone. A local lady did the research on the Civil War info for book here in Lancaster honoring our Civil War vets. The other info is my research from the 1850 census and the 1881 landbook.

BUCHAN FAMILY 1850 LANCASTER

11 101 101 Buchan Nicholas P. 60 M W Farmer 4,000 VA
12 101 101 Buchan Polly 55 F W VA
13 101 101 Buchan Saml. S. 17 M W None

NICHOLAS P BUCHAN----------1790
POLLY BUCHAN --------------1795
SAMUEL SPENCER BUCHAN------1833-1864

FROM CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL OF LANCASTER COUNTY BY SANDY P SHERRILL.

SAMUEL SPENCER BUCHAN--ENLISTED 5/22/61 IN 40TH VA CAVALRY, COMPANY E. FARMER. MWIA AT UNKNOWN BATTLE IN 1864. <FAMILY MEMBER SAYS PETERSBURG AND THAT THE BODY WAS SENT HOME IN A BOX PACKED WITH COAL//SPS> DIED 10/14/1864 FROM A BROKEN FEMUR IN RICHMOND. <BURIED FAMILY CEMETARY WINDMILL POINT ROAD NO MARKER SPS> ON THE 1881 LANDBOOK THERE IS A 234 ACRE ESTATE FOR SAMUEL SPENCER BUCHAN LISTED AT MOSQUITO CREEK, 17 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE COURTHOUSE.

This is touching as it extinguished this family in this area. Hope to find more in subsequent research.
