I've been looking into a Jane Bryce, chr1850 in Auchinleck, Ayr. Her father is listed as Alexander Bryce, with no mother. An Alexander Bryce married an Ann Hamilton in 1840 in Dalrymple, Ayr. They has a son James in 1848. It appears Ann might have died in child-birth in 1850--and her daughter was adopted by my forebears. Alexander Bryce married a Mary Sharp at Maybole, Ayr in Jan 1855, and they had many children into the early 1870s. This may be a connection for you. I hope it helps. Tom Cairns.
