It has been a few years since we communicated. I previously did some research on Morgan Bryan's Irish ancestry that I posted on this site and we exchanged views about it.I have been checking periodically on the familytreedna website for the Bryan surname to see if it is shedding any light on the different lines. So far it does not appear that anyone has attempted to gather traditional genealogical information from genetically related lines to see where they come together and then published that information.Instead the raw data has been posted along with the kit numbers but no real corresponding genealogy research, leaving everyone to figure it out for himself. This is quite different from what has been done with my Bush line, for example, where mine is one of five distinct groups that have been identified, with a number of "isolates" listed separately as such.Familytreedna emphasizes research on y-dna and mitochondrial dna.I think it is generally accurate but it is only one tool among others. I am about to have my dna testd on 23andMe to see if the test comes out the same, and to add the autosomal information that categorizes dna as European, Asian and African, to see what comes up.But that is not what I wanted to ask you about.I see people on the internet trying to equate William Bryan of Roanoke with William Bryan of Spotsylvania/Orange.They may be the same person, but I am skeptical.I have seen a reference to a deed that I want to try to find and take a look at where, in 1746, William Bryan conveys acreage in "Mason" county to Philip Bush (which at that time would have been part of massive Augusta County).Do you know anything about such a deed?Does it seem likely to you that a person in future Mason County on the Ohio River is the same person living at Roanoke, Va. around the same time?It is possible, but I do not think so.
