William C "Bud" Bruton 1920's SC

I am hoping to see if anyone has any information on a William C. Bruton? He went by the nickname "Bud". He lived in the area of Ruby, SC. He disappeared mysteriously in in the mid twenties and none of the family ever really knew what happened to him. He worked for the railroad or the steam plant depending on who you ask. It has been widely rumored that he was leading a "double life" and when he disappeared he went to live with his other family. My father is very interested to find out what happened to Bud, since he was his great grandfather. If anyone has any information or could point me to a good source, I would greatly appreciate if you would let me know.
